Wearing A Cross

So I am sitting in my living room reading “Not a Fan.” by Kyle Idleman. It is a book about being a completely committed follower of Jesus. There is a chapter in particular that I am reading and reminds me of a piece of jewelry I have recently bought. The chapters title is “Take Up Your Cross Daily-An Everyday Death”.

The piece of jewelry that it reminds me of is this gold plated dainty cross bracelet that I bought a couple weeks ago from a shop on etsy.com. I bought it because it spoke to me. As I have been going through my wardrobe transition, I have been really concentrating on pieces that identify and speak to me on a deeper level.

I am not a custom to wearing crosses. In fact, years ago I would typically avoid wearing any jewelry that would “identify” who I was or my beliefs for the sake of not having to talk about it. While reading a part of this chapter, I was reminded the importance of the cross. It is literally an invitation to death. And while some might wear a cross as more of a fashion statement and think nothing of it, it hits a more serious tone with me.

This cross bracelet is my daily reminder to not let things, materials, shopping, clothes, jewelry be my daily goal. My daily goal needs to be to die to myself and let Jesus be the one who is seen in my life. I am so thankful of that timely reminder and I hope I have challenged you to think of what is truly important in life today.
